In August 2005, Israel, in an il-advised attempt to make peace with a people who had demonstrated time and time again that they did not want peace, unilaterally vacated the entire Gaza strip, leaving nothing behind except some very economically exploitable greenhouses, and 37 years of superior engineering and infrastructure. Not a single Jew was left behind after August 15, 2005. Israel said, “Here palestinians, here is your land back for you to do whatever you wish. You are now an independent, sovereign country. May Allah bless you.”
Hamas began launching rockets into Israel within 24 hours. In the meantime, Hamas burned anything believed to have been built by the “Joos” (including those greenhouses), and dug up much of the water pipes supplying water (they make nice rocket bodies).
If I remember correctly, at that time the first palestinian LGBTQ community members were thrown from the tops of Gaza’s higher buildings, or so was reported by Amnesty International.
In 2006 elections were held, and Hamas became the government of Gaza (there hasn’t been an election since). There was some reprieve for Israel, as Hamas became busy with a civil war against the Palestinian Authority. But once that was over the rocket attacks came back in ernst. Wikipedia differs slightly in that they say rockets began being launched from Gaza in 2001. They also give the number of rockets launched into Israel as in the tens of thousands.
From 2006 on, attacks and counter attacks have gone back and forth. Basically, every time Hamas launched an attack into Israel the IDF sent in jets to retaliate, and this went on and one, ad. infinitum, ad. nauseum, until October 7 2023, when Hamas launched an all out invasion attacking the towns and Kibbutzim closest to Gaza, and a music festival, and indiscriminately raped, pillaged, plundered and outright slaughtered anyone they could outrun (or in some cases, find sleeping in their beds) and perpetuated barbarisms that made the “Red Wedding” (in Game of Thrones) look like a children’s birthday party.
The war began on October 8th, and has continued to this day. The fact of the matter is that Hamas is a child who has not learned that you do not plunge a stick into a hornets nest and expect to get away with it. And they somehow forgot that Israel possesses nuclear war heads. Naturally, the minions of Tik Tok, Twitter, X, and what-have-you have decided that the poor palestinians are being suppressed (in their own country) by brutal but militarily, technologically advanced “white” people and somehow “70 years of colonization, occupation and land theft” (an utter and complete falsehood) justified Hamas “well intentioned resistance” (that’s what some call the 10/7 genocide these days, with illustrations of Che Guevara fighting off the capitalist fascists).
The icing on the propaganda cake is calling the Gaza/Israel war a “genocide,” when in actual, practical, logical fact it is nothing close to that (in fact, the IDF has demonstrated remarkable restraint, given that, if they really wanted to, they could have ended the war in 30 days if they had just dropped a small, tactical surgically placed nuke). No, Israel wants to save as many non combatants as they practically can. Meantime their enemy sets up tactical shop under hospitals, schools, mosques and even peoples home, so as to keep their human shields where the IDF can’t help but to kill them (a tactic that Arab combatants have used since the 1920’s).
