Witness now the merging of the left and the right

It’s true. You would think that perhaps the echo chambers of the extreme right wing and the extreme left wing had somehow overlapped or melded with each other. It seems like an impossible thing, even an implausible one. But this is not so implausible when you view the political spectrum as a circle, rather than a line.

The farther down the left side or the right side of the circle one slides, the closer on comes to embracing an autocracy, the total opposite of democracy.  It also seems like antisemitism (these days called anti-zionism by the politically correct) is a position just above autocracy and even leads into an autocratic state.

One thing characteristic of moral decline on either the Right or the Left is when they embrace antisemitism (aka, “antiZionism”).  This occurs right before they slip into totalitarianism, and indeed,  unfounded Jew hatred is a characteristic of totalitarian fascism or communism.

I am inclined to state, based upon my own observances over the past fifty years, that once you’ve slipped down past three-quarters on either side of the circle, the only difference in your political posture would be where you started from, since both of you have now embraced the worst kind of fascism.
